Science Writer
BIOZONE currently has an exciting new opportunity for a full-time role as a Science Writer (any of: chemistry, biology, physics, earth and space sciences). You will help to shape the future direction of BIOZONE’s suite of print and digital offerings around the world. You may have been creating instructional materials for students in your own classroom. Now is the time to consider sharing your creative skill with a much wider audience. Your role may be either on a permanent full-time basis or as a part-time contract writer

In Brief:

The writer will be responsible for writing instructional materials for high school science curricula. You will join the writing team, and contribute to the creation of resources. This varied and busy role works closely with curriculum specialists, customers, and internal stakeholders. If you enjoy working in a cooperative, creative team environment, this position will suit you perfectly. You must be able to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and possess strong organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines. Solid science writing and research skills are a must, along with excellent self-editing and proofreading capabilities.

Need to know more? The Writer will also:
  • Contribute to the creation of market-winning educational science products and services.
  • Liaise with internal and external contributors (e.g. the publisher, editor, authors, contributors, and other creative team members).
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in pedagogical thinking and changes in science curricula.
  • Plan and deliver products aligned with business goals.
  • Occasionally contribute to marketing by assisting with presentations to target audiences (may include attendance at conferences and some travel).
  • Working remotely from any part of New Zealand is possible (it is not a requirement to be located at our office in Hamilton).
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand.

Who are we looking for:

Experience Requirements
  • Previous experience in the creation of instructional materials.
  • Ideally, you will have experience teaching science in a classroom environment.

Skill Requirements
  • Knowledge of the local (NZ) science curricula, and an expectation to gain an understanding of international science curricula as required.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • An ability to prioritise projects by balancing a complex workload of publishing tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English with excellent communication (verbal and written) and literacy skills.
  • Understanding of digital workflows and formats would be an advantage.
