The human evolution workbook provides students with a comprehensive insight into the origin and development of the human species. Our primate ancestry is outlined leading onto a description of hominid evolution including the development of intelligence and social structure, tool cultures, art, spirituality and fossil dating within our species.

The workbook consists of factual information followed by a series of worksheets for students to complete. The text is designed to be used alongside modular A-levels and would be suitable to accompany anthropology or components of A-level biology. I also think this workbook in particular would be of use to first year degree students studying evolution modules as part of a biology degree.

There is a detailed introduction to the workbook which instructs students on how the book is intended to be used; the layout of the activity pages and an explanation of the terms used within the text. The introduction goes on to give instruction on using the internet to find resources, the BIOZONE site in particular, but also outlines some supplementary texts, periodicals, journals and magazines which would be useful to those students planning on going to university.

I think the worksheets would act as a useful study aid at A-level provided students are happy to work through their way through the sheets. The Volume of text, small print and lack of colour photographs can make the book hard work at times; however, for the right students it provides an ample introduction to human evolution.
