Without a doubt, the use of Microsoft Office’s PowerPoint presentations has become a familiar sight in classrooms during recent times. Biozone’s Super Bundle Presentation Media is a six CD set in the PowerPoint format, with some content suitable for GCSE level, but generally aimed at the post-16 market.
The set comprises of six CDs: Evolution, Genes and Inheritance, Health and Disease, Cell Biology and Biochemistry, Ecology, and Human Evolution. Information on each topic is structured sensibly, is very thorough, and excellent illustrations are used well throughout.
The depth of each presentation would necessitate editing for use in the classroom more often than not, but as each set is provided in editable PowerPoint and Keynote format this does not present an obstacle. Also, for ease of use, included on each disk is the option of playing slides through QuickTime slideshow or in Adobe Acrobat PDF.
The slides are wonderfully rich in detail, and presented in an interesting manner, but you can’t help from feeling as you work through them that some animation or video would have made them all the more engaging. However, as an editable resource they provide a good basis for lessons on any of the six topics covered on the CDs. Biozone also have work books that accompany these disks, which if of similar quality, would make this media set of greater use, and make the price of £499.95 not seem excessive.
